Listening
- Hold regular Youth Council meetings to provide a forum for young people, local government and other government and service providers to consult on youth perspectives.
- Stay aware and become truly informed to accurately represent what young people’s issues are.
- Visit schools, university and verbYL to hear young people’s issues and concerns
Advocacy
- Promote and encourage youth leadership and activities through youth grants.
- Assign focus areas to Youth Councillors who can make things happen (verbYL, schoolies etc)
- Establish links to council’s portfolio, councillors, departments and government to maximise advocacy
Promotion
- Promote the Youth Council and verbYL in any area possible.
- Promote youth grants to all young people.
- Aid in developing the verbYL website, in addition to keeping the Youth Council page of the verbYL website up to date, interesting and relevant
Decision making
- Learn decision making skills and processes to ensure every member gets a say, every member is listened, in addition to all relevant information being sourced and discussed before a decision is reached.
- Report to the Livingstone Shire Council three times a year on achievements and activities.
- Actively participate and make decisions concerning verbYL and its operation.
- Attend forums to exchange ideas/methods of running Youth Councils
Developing skills and knowledge
- Learn about the roles of government and how local government can relate to young people.
- Tour council buildings and learn about each department.
- Tour verbYL and learn about the way it is funded and run.
